The above details expectations for those professors considering implementing a LEVEL 1, 2, 3, or 4 OER project in support of a Z Degree.

OER LEVELS // STAGE 2

LEVEL 3: Adaption
Customization of an existing OER.
LEVEL 4: Creation
Creation of a new open source text or material.
Expectations for 'Adaption' or 'Creation' is that the final product will be open and made available via Pressbooks under Creative Commons licenses.

REMINDER: OER development ('adaption' or 'creation') at NIC is a 2-STAGE process. You cannot move to STAGE 2 without completing forms for STAGE 1. Stipend eligibility in STAGE 2 is contingent on first completing STAGE 1: OER Research/Literature Review.

NOTE: The purpose of this form is to help us to help us understand which existing OER material you would like to adapt/remix or why creation is needed.  Training/assistance is provided to help with remixing (Pressbooks), implementation (Canvas) and maintaining open status with Creative Commons licensing.

STAGE 2: ADAPTION

This form/application is for faculty who implemented or made use of OER or Very Low Cost resources prior to the 'Project Z' state initiative. The completion and outcome of this form is for your efforts to be recognized through an enhancement and/or stipend. Those who have collected and curated free resources within Canvas in lieu of a text are eligible for a course enhancement (low-to-zero cost icon in the course catalog). Those who have adopted or implemented a low-to-zero cost textbook or other open resources will be eligible for a $500 stipend.

NOTE:  If you are interested in exploring other OER materials to replace your existing materials I would recommend you reach out the OER Coordinator (brian.seguin@nic.edu) or complete the STAGE 1 FORM: OER Research/Literature Review form.

Process

1. Professor schedules a meeting with the OER Coordinator review the resources available for adaption or remix. Professor then performs research (with or without support) and evaluates open titles or materials for adaption and notes these in NIC OER Literature Review spreadsheet.

2. Professor applies for LEVEL 3 OER compensation and enhancement by completing the STAGE 2 form (below) and submitting the literature review spreadsheet to the OER Coordinator.

APPLY

3. OER Coordinator reviews submission and replies to Professor within 5 business days.

4. A second meeting is scheduled with the OER Coordinator and (if needed) Support Team to discuss platforms for adaption/remix (Pressbooks), scope of work, documenting work, and implementation (Canvas).

5. Professor reaches out with research questions and makes Support Team aware when project is complete. Support Team provides any last suggestions.

6. OER Coordinator initiates enhancement ('Very Low Cost' icon) added to course catalog. NOTE: Currently collaborating with Student Services to determine this process.

7. OER Coordinator initiates one-time stipend payment of $1000.00 and $500.00 and directs to Provost for approval.
