Accessing and Using NIC Digital Resources

This guide provides how-to's, links, and relevant information for accessing and utilizing the various software, internet programs, and more that are provided by NIC and used in class instruction.

Using this Guide

As North Idaho College transitions to online class instruction, this guide should help you learn about some of the technologies available to you as a student. If you have any further questions about what you can access, how to use materials, etc. you can either look for helpful guides in the NIC Information Technology Knowledge Base or contact the IT Help Desk.


If you are needing access to specific software that is only available on campus, please review the guide for Accessing Student Lab Computers Remotely.


If you are unable to access the internet at home during this time, the following resources are offering free or expanded network options. Feel free to review this information and contact the service providers directly for more information.

What's In This Resource?

The following pages are meant to provide information on how to access and use specific digital resources that are commonly needed to complete class work.

Zoom

Zoom is a virtual meeting platform that allows for real-time visual, audio, and text communication. It is a great resource for online teaching and remote communication. This guide gives you information for setting up your computer for Zoom, using basic Zoom functions, and links to relevant how-to's from Zoom's website.

Microsoft Office365

Micrsoft Office365 is a cloud-based (stored and accessed on the internet) version of Microsoft Office. This guide will give you information on how to access it, how to best utilize some of its main features, and provide links to NIC's IT department and Microsoft's instruction links for information on how to troubleshoot and use the resource.

Acrobat Reader

Acrobat Reader is a PDF reader that comes with special functions to help you read materials on a screen. This resource will show you how to download Acrobat Reader, set it to your default PDF reader option, and give you tips on how to best use it for screen-reading and accessiiblity.

MyNIC

This resource will walk you through accessing your MyNIC dashboard and provide tips for how to get the most out of it including easy access to the resources described above.

Local Computer and Internet Access

This list, which will updated with new and relevant information as needed, lists locations where you can access computers and internet without charge.

Using a Mobile Device for Classes

This resource shows you how to access the resources described above, as well as digital services like Canvas, to complete course work when you don't have access to a computer.
