The Cardinal Reads committee is excited to present Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging as the 2018-20 common read selection in support of the Diversity Theme, Cultural Identity. This book was one of eleven titles submitted for consideration by the campus community in the SP17 semester and explores the following:
"Combining history, psychology, and anthropology, TRIBE explores what we can learn from tribal societies about loyalty, belonging, and the eternal human quest for meaning. It explains the irony that-for many veterans as well as civilians-war feels better than peace, adversity can turn out to be a blessing, and disasters are sometimes remembered more fondly than weddings or tropical vacations. Common Reads, or first-year reading programs, promote and enhance literacy and critical thinking in higher education settings while simultaneously building community and discussion around a shared experience. There are currently over 450 academic institutions that have instituted a common read program. The University of Toledo selected Tribe as it's 2018-19 Common Read.
